Start Losing Weight – The Big Picture
The first thing that many of us do when deciding to lose weight is that we go out and spend a small fortune. We enroll in gym classes, we purchase the latest tummy trimming machine on the shopping channel and we fork out for the latest slimming pill and the only thing that seems to shrink is our wallet and not our waistline.
One money saving tip we could all do will actually helps us to lose weight at the same time. Now doesn’t that sound great, save money and lose weight at the same time, surely it must be a closely guarded secret? No it is quite simple, just look at your daily routine and decide on what non essential things you can miss out on each and every day, this plan is about making those minor changes.
For example, do you start your morning with a coffee from the likes of Starbucks? Take a café latte, depending on which side of the pond you reside the average price is around $4.00 or £3.00, multiple this by 7 days a week and 52 weeks a year and we are talking $1456.00 or £1092.00 a year. Quite staggering really but not as staggering as the 94,000 calories you would have saved and since 3,500 calories is approximately 1 lb in weight you will now be 27 lbs lighter.
What about lunch time, do you enjoy a bag of potato chips or crisps as the UK calls them? At 220 calories a bag that is another 80,000 calories or 22 lbs you have saved in a year. Add this to your saving in a coffee a day and now you are 3 and a half stone lighter than you would have been.
Do you have one sugar or two in your tea or coffee and have you considered switching to sweeteners? Assuming you are a two sugar person drinking 5 hot drinks a day, spoon yourself 10 sugars into a cup, quite a lot isn’t it. Now when you hear this is 3,640 spoonfuls a year and that 48 spoonfuls equates to a pound of sugar you could cut out over 75lbs of sugar in one year.
How many times do you pop out in the car when you could walk? I am not even going to go into the cost savings you can make on fuel per gallon, the price rise so fast this article would be outdated before you get a chance to read it if I did. One thing that I can safely predict is the 10 minute walk there and back will burn off those calories at the same time as putting extra money in your pocket.
A 20 minute walk a day, either that school run or trip to the shops or cash machine or even parking in a cheaper car park on your way to work will add up to 20 miles a month, 24,000 calories a year.
Losing excess bodyweight requires a great deal of willpower and determination. Part of winning the battle is to train your mind at how much you can lose over the long term, not how much you will lose tomorrow. When it is time to start losing weight first decide where you want to be a year from now. How much weight would you like to lose in 12 months? When you have decided how much divide this by 12 to see how many lbs a month you need to shift or by 52 for a weekly total.
The reason for doing this is to keep track of your overall goal and to check that you are on target to achieve this goal. Looking long term we have already seen that those small changes can make a big difference over a 12 month period. You will also have good days and bad days, if you have a bad day remember to look at the overall picture. Aim to hit your weekly and monthly targets by focusing your mind on the big picture.
